My pizza evaluation

o Define what you understand as a healthy, ‘balanced meal’ using one or more of the ‘food models’ you have investigated ( Diet pyramid, healthy eating plate etc) a healthy 'balanced meal' to be

A heathy, balanced meal is one that includes the right amount of all food groups. My pizza was a healthy balanced meal although it could have had more vegetables to make it better if i were to do this task again. A healthy balanced daily in take for a child at the age of 12-18 is:

cereals (including breads, rice, pasta and noodles) - 5-11 serves

vegtables - 4 serves

Fruit - 3 serves

Dairy- 3 serves

protein, meat - 1 serve

On my pizza there is around:

cereals (including breads, rice, pasta and noodles) - 1-2 serves (the pizza base)

vegtables - 1 serves(avocado and sun dried tomatoes)

Fruit - 2 serves (fruit salad)

Dairy- 1 serves (cheese)

protein, meat - 1.5 serve (chicken)

Extra foods - 1 or less (teriyaki sauce)

Therefore my teriyaki chicken, avocado and cheese pizza was i well balanced meat containing al food groups.

o Explain why you made the food choices for your Pizza meal. (This can be for nutritional content, time, facilities available in kitchen, your skill level, appearance of final meal etc.)

I chose the most of the food that were on my pizza because I like then and I know that they are all healthy and from the different food groups. I also chose each of then for specific reasons. These reasons are:

Chicken: I chose chicken because it is easy to cook. and it goes with nearly everything.

cheese: well, what is a pizza with out cheese?

sun dried tomatoes: to add a nice, strong flavour to the pizza and for my vegetables.

i was going to make a smoothie instead of a fruit salad although i was worried about time so i chose a fruit salad instead. The last this that i took in to account when i was choosing my ingredients was what is available to use in the kitchen. this did not change a lot though because there is nearly every cooking utensil ever made.

once everything was done and my pizza was cooked i must say i looked delicious and tasted just as good !!!

o Discuss how well you think you executed this task. (This can include any problems you encountered, your time management, general organization, safety, final product satisfaction etc.)

I believe that I executed this task quite well. There were a couple of things during the process that didn't work out as planned. Some of these things include:

- Ordering to much cheese. I ordered 1 and half cups and only used 3 quarters of a cup.

- Not ordering enough sun dried tomatoes. The amount that i ordered was okay but it could have been better with around 2 more just to spread a nice amount around the whole pizza.

- When I looked back at my pizza i found out that there was one thing that was stopping it from being a well balanced meal. This was that there was not enough vegetables.

When completing my pizza task I think that I managed my time nicely and kept a clean and organised bench the whole time. In the end I had a delicious and nutritious teriyaki chicken, avocado, sun dried tomato and cheese pizza.

o What have you learned about yourself from this task?

After completing this task i have now realised that one, i can cook :) and two, just because something is healthy for you doesn't mean that it is not YUMMY! I have also learned from being in the kitchen that no matter where you are and what you are doing keep your working space clean as it is a lot easier to keep organised.

o What would you do differently next time?

If I had the chance to do this task again I wouldn't change a lot. The main thing that i would need to change is to add more vegetables, as a side dish or even on the pizza. I would also change the amount of cheese that I ordered from 1 and a half cups to half a cup. other than that there is nothing much that i can think of to change next time.
